7 Tips to Prepare your House for Sale

Kingfisher OK homes for saleGetting your house ready for sale is really not that difficult and the little amount of effort you invest now can mean thousands of dollars later.  Below are 7 helpful tips that will prepare your house for sale.

1) Remove Personalization: You want prospective buyers to envision themselves in your house. Go ahead and remove photos of you and your family, and any personal heirlooms that might give the buyer a clue as to who lives their. You want them envision pictures of them on the mantel and on the walls.

2) Remove Clutter: Removing clutter goes a long way to making your house look presentable and ready for a buyer to move in. Remove old books and magazines, pick up clothes, remove items you don’t regularly use in the kitchen, get rid of old stuff in the garage. Have a garage sale if you can and start packing things you don’t need right away for your upcoming move.

3) Tidy Up: Look in you rooms and closets and tidy-up any messes, boxes, clothes etc. You want the buyers to think you are neat and orderly and thus have taken care of the house the same way you take care of your personal belongings.

4) Repair Minor Things: Look around your house and fix any minor issues such as leaky faucets, holes in the wall, light bulbs that need replacing, loose cabinets doors, etc.

5) New Coat of Paint: Consider painting your house a neutral color. A new paint job will add lots of value and appeal and the neutral color will most likely be acceptable to 99% of buyers.

6) Clean, Clean, Clean: Grab the mop and bucket and clean floors, bathrooms, kitchen etc. Make your house shine like never before. Consider the rental of a pressure washer to clean the exterior of the house.

7) It Starts at the Curb: Trim shrubs, paint mailbox, replace the number signs, plant flowers. Anything you can do to spruce up the curb appeal as this is the first thing a buyer sees.
